Safer Fields for All
We are a group of concerned Washington citizens and farmers who are committed to an environmentally responsible and safe Washington for today and tomorrow.
As members of Washington's local communities, we are encouraging the public to say NO to the installation of synthetic turf playing fields in our public spaces. Not only are synthetic turf playing fields an environmental injustice, but they can also be traced to detrimental health effects, including cancer.
Washington Turfgrass Seed Commission
The growers of Turfgrass Seed in Washington voted to establish the Washington Turfgrass Seed Commission for the purposes of funding research in the production, processing, or distribution of turfgrass seed, collecting and disseminating information on turfgrass seed and turfgrass seed by-products, and establishing and conducting programs to develop markets for turfgrass seed and by-products, including straw utilization projects.
Our Goals
We want to protect the health and safety of our local communities in Washington by advocating and bringing awareness to the detrimental health effects that synthetic turf causes.
There are several environmental concerns associated with synthetic turf, that not only jeopardize the health of our planet, but also our livelihoods. Now, more than ever, we must prioritize the safety of our future by effectively minimizing our plastic waste and using real grass. After all, it's a part of nature.
We want to help communities help themselves. We hope to show neighborhoods and communities that, by using real turfgrass in their playing fields, they can keep their communities cooler and their athletes can avoid injury and other health effects associated with synthetic turf. Our hope is to arm these communities with the knowledge that will convince their elected officials to ban the use of synthetic turf in local playing fields.
